Starting January 1, 2009,
California will begin regulating the formaldehyde emissions from composite
wood products (particleboard, MDF, and hardwood plywood) sold in the state
or used to make finished goods offered for sale in the state. All
products containing composite wood products must comply with the new
regulation.
To help producers and consumers understand
and comply with this rule, the Composite Panel Association (CPA) has created
this site to provide information on the rule.
Informational documents explaining the rule, customer fact sheets, and
Frequently Asked Questions are all provided on our
Resources and Documents About the Rule page. This should be your
first stop if you're looking for information on the CARB rule.
CPA was the first Third Party Certifier (TPC) in the world to
be approved by CARB and is now certifying manufacturers to CARB.
Fabricators looking for a list of CARB certified panel producers and those
domestic composite panel manufacturers interested in CARB certification
should visit our Testing &
Compliance Certification page.
Finally, visit our Links page to find
contact information for CARB and other associations working with CPA on the
implementation of the rule.
If you have a specific question that is not addressed in the
materials on this site, please
contact the CPA staff
for immediate assistance.
